FOR THE RIVER VALLEY

Our Mission: Improving the lives of those with developmental disabilities and their families.

The ARC for the River Valley serves a seven county area of Western Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma. At this time, we serve 600+ in the River Valley and surrounding areas.  We have served the community since 1959 and are the local chapter of The Arc, a national organization. In 2005 The Arc, was named by Forbes Magazine as #10 on their list of top 200 United States Charities.

Locally we offer a wide variety of services to the developmentally disabled, of all ages, and their families. In summer 2006, Camp Many Mountains, a day camp for disabled children increased the number of children we serve and prompted the beginning of The Arc's Children's Program. The camp takes place every summer in Fort Smith, AR. We started many new programs in 2006 and have more under development to better serve our community in 2007. Please see our Programs page for more information on upcoming activities and events.

We cannot do without the partnership of many local businesses and organizations. Please visit our Partners page and support the businesses and organizations that support The ARC.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR

There has never been a more necessary time to support those with developmental disabilities. Adult children are outliving their parents (a good thing). Young disabled children need to be given the opportunities, to learn and grow and play, that other children take for granted. Families need to know that they are embraced, not excluded from the community, because of their child with disability.

Please help us. Sponsor or attend a benefit. Join Friends of the ARC. Sign up to volunteer, or donate one of the tangible items listed on our donation page. The comment I get most from our members is this: "We love the ARC". Please take that as a huge thank you and know that your giving goes beyond kindness. It's love!

With Sincere Appreciation,
